ASLHS hope you all have a wonderful St. Patrick's. ASLHS wish you a pot o' gold and all the joy your heart can hold.





In honor of Women's History Month and a THANK YOU gift and to celebrate Women History Month this month, 3 lucky ASL teachers/sponsor will receive one of the following products from 58 creativity, a Deaf owned business/graphic designer!





We also want to celebrate Deaf President Now as it was a crucial moment in Deaf History. 1 lucky winner will receive Deaf Culture: Exploring Deaf Communities in the United States: 2nd Edition.




We hope this wonderful resource will allow you to incorporate Deaf President now in your curriculum. Winners will be announced March 31st. How to enter: you must be a member of ASLTA and ASLHS. If you haven't renew or join ASLHS- apply here! ASLHS membership coordinator will randomly draw 3 winners.

Welcome our newest ASLHS Competitions Coordinator, Sabrina Vasconcelos!


About: Born in Brazil, Sabrina first got involved with the Deaf community while she was working towards her undergraduate in social work. She worked as a Brazilian Sign Language interpreter for five years, and acquired a Master's degree in Social Work. Upon moving to America, she got two degrees from San Diego Mesa College in ASL studies and ASL/English Interpretation, and holds a Master's in Teaching American Sign Language from the University of Northern Colorado. She is an ASLTA certified teacher, and has been teaching ASL in an all-girl school for the past six years. Most recently, Sabrina started working as an employment training specialist with DeafBlind youth and adults. She currently is part of the board of directors of the San Diego ASLTA chapter.

Favorite food: Her mom's cozido (beef stew with vegetables)

Favorite hobby: Singing (she was a lead singer in band Brazil, on her "previous life")

Back in October, ASL honor society students taught basic Halloween signs to the club and engaged in some festive crafts. In November, honor society students prepared 175 holiday cards to be shipped out to three different Deaf retirement homes/senior centers across the US.


So awesome!!




 


ASLHS DEAF SCHOOLS:

ASL Honor Society wants to support Deaf Schools to establish ASL Honor Society chapters to allow Deaf students to join our competitions, scholarship, and other opportunities to earn cords, medals and so much more! This is a great opportunity for Deaf students to participate in this organization. ASLHS JUNIOR:



We are so excited and want to recognize our FIRST school to establish ASLHS JR! Congratulation Cypress Middle School in Florida. ASL Sponsor Kandis Alfonso!

American Sign Language Honor Society is now offering ASLHS JR for 6-8th graders!



HUNTA WILLIAMS wanted to announce an exciting news for you all regarding our ASLHS JR. Andrew Foster Medal. Watch the video for more!!



Go ahead and sign up now for ASLHS. We will have medals and other ASLHS JR. benefits so you can recognize your middle school ASL students!


ASLHS Junior is for any 6th-8th grade student who takes ASL at a middle school (2 years of study preferred, unless only 1 year is offered). Membership will be offered to 6-8 grade students during the 2nd semester of ASL. ASLHS Jr. students can participate in all competitions and will be judged in a separate category. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. It is strongly recommended, but not required, that sponsors require community service hours and/or ASL/Deaf-related projects for students to qualify.

AS A Reminder: We established a private Facebook group for your ASL Honor Society Members/Students to join! Don't forget to remind your students to join! This will be a wonderful opportunity for your students to collaborate, network with other ASL students, share ideas on variety topics regarding ASLHS and so much more

  • It's now time for a renewal or an opportunity to join American Sign Language Honor Society! Don't forget to renew your ASLTA and ASLHS membership fees if you haven't done so.

  • You are not a member but interested joining ASLHS or know someone who’s interested? It’s not too late to join! Be sure to pay your dues at https://aslta.org/membership/. Membership starts from Sept. 1st, 2021 to Aug. 31st, 2022. If you have any questions, contact aslhs.membershio@aslta.org

 

Graduation:


We are accepting graduation orders now-you may pay by check or via credit card on our website. ASLHS Teacher Grant


Have an ASL study project in mind related to your ASL classes and need financial assistance? ASL Honor Society offers up to $500 teacher grants for our ASL teachers throughout the year. We provide 3-5 award a year.


Appropriate uses for the ASL Honor Society Teacher Mini-Grant Program include, but are not limited to:

- Guest speaker fees

- ASL Festival / Deaf Awareness Weeks costs

- ASL-curriculum, supplies, or equipment

ASLHS Scholarship


New Student Scholarship Application are in!!! ASL students can apply NOW!


The ASLHS is proud to sponsor nationwide scholarships available to students majoring or minoring in ASL, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, and Interpreter Preparation. We will offer 3 scholarships of $1,500 each. Scholarships are offered to students who will begin college in the fall or are currently enrolled. Applicants must have an active chapter of the ASLHS on campus to be eligible. No scholarships are awarded to students from campuses that are not members of ASLHS.
